Extras People

4/20 Artist

Cassidy McVey

A little fact that many people don’t realize, that even I am currently struggling with, is that often when people have more time on their hands they are less productive. I have been struggling with this for sure during quarantine, feeling like since I have so much time, I can just do something later. I’ve been trying not to get too down on myself about not being “creative” but when I think of that, I mean drawing or painting. In reality, I’ve been being creative but in different ways such as blogging or baking. However, knowing those facts doesn’t actually make me feel better. That’s what I decided to do this month’s artist spotlight on myself.

I started seriously diving into art maybe two to three years ago. I had always enjoyed it, but it wasn’t until then that I decided to try new things, push my limits, and practice. I have tried many mediums, many styles, taken many classes, and I’m finally finding my own style and realizing what I like and don’t like.

I was an apprentice at a tattoo shop for a little while, but that didn’t work out (iykyk, many tattoo shops have a reputation for treating women differently than men). I changed my major from supply chain management to fine arts and began trying new things and practicing skills that actually made me happy.

I enjoy working with heavy body acrylic paints, and pen. Sometimes I enjoy dabbling with felt tip colored pens, but typically I like drawing in black and white. I like creating things that either portray the emotions I have a hard time saying, or things I’d like to have tattooed on me or hung up in my room.

I’ve had some people commission pieces of art, whether it be for a tattoo or for their room, but I love gifting people art that reminds me of them. I hope to one day make a career out of something that allows me to unleash my artistic desires, but until then I’m happy just selling a few pieces of art here and there.

More of my art can be seen on my Instagram highlights under the tabs “paint” and “pen”. I’m accepting commissions of any kind currently 🙂
