I Did My Own Eyelash Extensions!!

(AND IT WORKED???)

So around the time of my birthday, I was browsing online to finally use some of my Ulta points and get some free stuff. Treat yourself, you know? I came across a product I had seen before, but never got because I wasn’t sure if it would actually work, or if I’d even be able to do it.

Ardell released a product called Individual Lashes Starter Kit (the one I purchased was called DIY Eyelash Extensions which for some reason sounds scarier but it is the exact same product). It comes with fanned individual lashes, like the ones used for volume extensions, glue that lasts up to two weeks, lash remover, and tweezers. The packaging came with very vague instructions so I put my fear aside and got ready to lash myself.

I started with my outer corner, using the long lashes. I used the entire row with half of the row on one eye and the other half on the other eye. I have twitchy eyes and shakey hands, so I quickly gave up on the fantasy of gluing one false lash to one real lash. I glued some on top of my real lashes with my eye closed, and some under my real lashes with my eye open so I could try and achieve that “layered” effect that looks so fluffy and dreamy.

I moved on to my inner corners, using the short lashes with the same routine I used for the long lashes. At this point, there was only a very small noticeable gap with no false lashes, so I started there filling it in with the medium lashes. I only used about half a row for both eyes to fill in the major gap. After that, I went back and forth between both eyes just putting in a medium-length lash anywhere I could fit one. I added some on top of my lashes, under my lashes, between other false lashes, inner corner, outer corner – you get the idea, I used the whole pack of lashes.

During this whole process, I’d add a drop of glue to a piece of foil to dip the false lash into. I had to do a new drop 4 times, once after each section and twice while doing the medium lashes. I found it started to dry or run out after I had done so many lashes. I’ve had real eyelash extensions before and my eyes were ALWAYS irritated after getting them done. So I was shocked to find out this glue had no harsh smell and didn’t bother my eyes at all.

The whole process took me about an hour and a half and wasn’t very hard. I probably could’ve done it quicker, but it was tedious and I’m a perfectionist. I was super happy with the way they turned out and not to toot my own horn, but it looked pretty damn professional. I waited like 10 minutes just to make sure any and all glue was dry before I brushed them out. I didn’t brush very gentle because I wanted to test the durability, and none fell out.

I’m definitely going to be ordering more of the individual lashes so as these fall out I can replace them, and now that I’m basically a pro, I want to try different styles rather than just cat eye. So if you’re bored in quarantine, or just want to test your skills, I super recommend this product. It’s super user friendly as long as you have a mirror and some patience.
